More individuals are living with disabilities—injuries from war, longer lifespans, an aging population, and extreme sports all contribute to this fast-growing group. As Baby Boomers turn 60 years of age over the next decade, people with disabilities—including hidden disabilities—will increase proportionally.

As journalists and other media professionals increasingly report on disability-related topics, disconnect often exists between the general public and people with disabilities.
